January, 2023 – Inaugural GCSW Doctoral Awardees have been announced. Help us celebrate this diverse group of DSW and PhD students who are working to address one or more of the Grand Challenges for Social Work!
The Grand Challenges for Social Work (GCSW) is pleased to announce the call for applications for its inaugural doctoral awards cohort. The Doctoral Awards are an exciting new element of the GCSW’s efforts to Go•Grander and are generously funded by the New York Community Trust.
Doctoral awards of $3,000 are available to support dissertation or capstone expenses of social work doctoral students whose work addresses at least one of the Grand Challenges. It is expected that awardee proposals will discuss the impact on and potential to create policy and practice changes. One award will be made for each of the 13 Grand Challenges.
Applications are due December 9 by 8pm ET.
Application Criteria
Applicants must be enrolled in a social work doctoral program in the United States and its territories. Doctoral students who anticipate completing a capstone project or dissertation by June 30, 2024 are eligible to apply. Applications are strongly encouraged from students from underrepresented populations or with historically marginalized backgrounds. Examples of marginalized backgrounds include, but are not limited to, first-generation college graduates; individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds; individuals from minoritized communities; individuals from LGBTQ2SI communities; and individuals with disabilities.
