The Journal of Ethnic & Cultural Diversity in Social Work is inviting submissions for the Special Issue, The Future of Race, Ethnicity, and Culture in Social Work: Challenges and Opportunities. JECDSW aims to develop knowledge, and promote understanding of the impact of race, ethnicity, culture, and class on the delivery of social services. JECDSW is a major social work journal that has been published since 1990 to provide an important forum for scholars and researchers to examine multicultural issues in social work and human services provision.
The spirit of this Special Issue is to create an intellectual space for us to imagine what the future of race, ethnicity and culture would look like in relation to the selected issues and problems. Many of them might have already been identified by the Grand Challenges for Social Work (GCSW), and the opportunities they hold for social work practice, research, and education. The world is changing constantly and rapidly in many ways. It will be important for us to understand the current landscape, look into the potential future development and challenges so that the social work profession can act on creative, preventive and innovative solutions that will promote racial and social justice as well as embrace diversity, equity and inclusion.
Building upon a commitment to racial and social justice as well as diversity, equity and inclusion, this Special Issue welcomes conceptual discussions of 12 pages or less that are structured as follows:
1. Identify an issue that could be related to a problem, Grand Challenges for Social Work, population, theories, or research methods, etc.
2. Based on current, relevant, and evidence-based knowledge, explicitly describe the current landscape related to the selected topic.
3. Projecting into the future at least 5 or 10 years, describe what might be the development and challenges of the selected issues, including identifying potential future Grand Challenges for Social Work.
4. Imagine what could be some potential preventive and innovative solutions that could effectively address the issue and its challenges in a way that will promote racial and social justice as well as embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion.
5. Describe what might be the opportunities for social work practice, research, and/or education and how social work can contribute to their positive development.
