Announcement of JSSWR Special Issue, Call for Papers, Grand Challenge to Ensure Healthy Development of All Youth

ANNOUNCEMENT OF SPECIAL ISSUE- CALL FOR PAPERS
ENSURE HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT FOR ALL YOUTH THROUGH THE POWER OF PREVENTION

Guest Coeditors: Kimberly Bender, PhD, and Valerie Shapiro, PhD

Submission Deadline: October 1, 2017

The Journal of the Society for Social Work and Research (JSSWR) announces a special issue dedicated to the prevention of behavioral health problems in children and youth. This special issue aligns with efforts of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare’s Grand Challenge to Ensure Healthy Development for All Youth (https://grandchallengesforsocialwork.org/grand-challenges-initiative/12-challenges/ensure-healthy-development-for-all-youth/) and the resulting position paper entitled “Unleashing the Power of Prevention” (https://nam.edu/perspectives-2015-unleashing-the-power-of-prevention/). This JSSWR special issue will feature empirical manuscripts addressing effective prevention practice and policy—specifically through intervention research, dissemination and implementation research, and methodological innovations.

Scope and Topics of Interest

Papers in this issue are intended to demonstrate progress in “Unleashing the Power of Prevention” through testing the efficacy, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and sustainability of preventive interventions that promote healthy youth development and prevent common behavioral health problems in young people from birth through age 24. Preventive interventions may include any strategy that seeks to avoid a problem before it occurs (rather than remediate or control a problem once it has occurred). Strategies may target change at the individual, group, family, organizational, or policy level. Authors should describe how their submission advances the Grand Challenge to Ensure Healthy Development for All Youth.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • experimental and quasi-experimental studies examining the effects of preventive interventions;
  • empirical studies of the dissemination and implementation of preventive interventions;
  • outcomes of the adaptation of preventative interventions to new problems, populations, or settings;
  • systematic reviews related to preventive interventions and their dissemination; and
  • methodological research related to the study of preventive interventions and their dissemination.

Authors are invited to contact the guest coeditors to discuss specific ideas for submissions:
