Journal of Social Work Practice in the Addictions – Call for Papers

The American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare Grand Challenges for Social Work includes one of great  relevance to the Journal of Social Work Practice in the Addictions’ (JSWPA) readership: Reducing and Preventing Alcohol Misuse and Its Consequences. Now that the challenge has been formulated, it is time to develop and implement mechanisms for realizing and reporting progress toward these goals.

The Journal of Social Work Practice in the Addictions is seeking manuscripts that address the goals identified in the Grand Challenge for Social Work: Reducing and Preventing Alcohol Misuse and Its Consequences. Individuals interested in responding to this call are encouraged to visit the AASWSW Grand Challenges Initiative website: https://grandchallengesforsocialwork.org/grand-challenges-initiative and read “Reducing and Preventing Alcohol Misuse and Its Consequences” before submitting papers.

Potential topics might include (but are not limited to):

  • Strategies for or progress toward reducing alcohol misuse among the general population
  • Strategies for or progress toward reducing consequences associated with alcohol misuse (e.g., physical health, mental health, social, economic, legal, and other negative outcomes)
  • Strategies for or progress toward achieving these goals through prevention and intervention efforts with specific population groups (e.g., pregnant women, adolescents and emerging adults, individuals in recovery, military personnel, )
  • Strategies for or progress toward achieving these goals through micro-level (individual, family), mezzo-level

  • Educational, therapeutic/clinical, policy, administrative (e.g., workforce development), research (e.g., use of big data, geospatial mapping), technological (e.g., use of social media or electronic devices), or other approaches that have demonstrated effects or show promise for preventing or reducing alcohol misuse and its consequences
  • We especially encourage the submission of innovative, multi-/inter-/trans-disciplinary approaches, as well as other goals or approaches not identified above
